sound design & mixing

At The Film Bakery sound is given equal care to the pictures.  Our in-house facilities provide for digital stereo mixing and richly layered soundscapes, sometimes involving over a hundred tracks.  Our motorised digital mixing panel makes it possible to precisely control every one of the elements and create just the right balance with voice, music and sound effects.

SOUND DESIGN

The sound design process involves placing ambience and other sound effects in layers around the main voice and/or music to create the impression of a more complete “world”.  Because much of our perception of sound in subconscious these layers can be an effective tool for giving the audience stylistic or emotional cues.

VOICE RECORDING

Voice recording at The Film Bakery can be a Voice Over recording or Additional Dialogue Recording (ADR) to replace location voice recordings with a clean studio recording.

MIXING

Mixing at it’s most basic level allows for the adjustment of the volume of each element of the soundscape.  Beyond this is the capacity to fine tune all of the elements by using processing to bring out certain aspects of a sound or hold back others.  Selective use of effects like echo or pitch can be used to add more depth.  The final mix-down then ties all of the elements together into a cohesive whole that the audience can then experience seamlessly.
